These few months have been one of the most interesting periods in my life..Tak tau macam mana nak describe,but I will try my best here..

Perjalanan hidup setiap insan tidak pernah akan sama,walaupun mungkin ada persamaan sedikit sebanyak di sana sini..Lupakan seketika soal politik..I'm gonna share with you some of what I think a very valuable experience yang saya percaya tak ramai orang pernah tempuhi..

Setiap perkara yang berlaku dalam hidup membawa maksud yang amat berguna dalam perjalanan hidup seseorang manusia in order for him/her to grow..Dan pembelajaran hidup ini tidak akan pernah terhenti,sehinggalah kita menemui Maha Pencipta satu hari nanti..

I learned a lot of things when I was a kid,gained a lot during my teenage years,experienced a lot in my early adulthood life,and now here I am,continuing the journey..Sejak kecil,gua memang jenis yang tidak suka mengikut sistem sangat,bukan bermaksud rebellious,tapi lebih kepada tidak pernah suka pada generalisation of thinking..

Sebagai contoh,saya tidak pernah percaya kepada sistem kehidupan kita yang seolah-olah diprogram..Belajar,kerja,banyak duit,kaya,kereta besar,rumah besar,raise family,teruskan hidup,mati..Bukan menentang konsep ini,cuma ia terlalu biasa bagi saya..It's not spontaneous/adventurous..But yeah,I don't do any extra-ordinary things yang melampau jugak..

I'm a bit lucky,coz I came from a family that can afford things,not rich,tapi boleh laa support sedikit sebanyak yang membolehkan saya meng'experience' banyak perkara,terutama di Australia hingga kini..Not going to deny that..Tapi hakikatnya,semua pengalaman ini tidak akan ternilai jika mahu dihitung dengan wang ringgit..

Okay back to the topic..

Beberapa bulan kebelakangan ini,saya menempuhi pengalaman yang tidak pernah terlintas langsung di kepala..Yes,I've experience a lot in terms of hidup berbilang agama,kaum, budaya,status,ideologi,gender sebelum ini,samada dalam hidup berkawan,bermasyarakat, politik,relationship,study etc..But this is something new..Ia membuka mata saya sedikit sebanyak..Dalam semua perkara-perkara ini,semuanya memberi kesan kepada pengetahuan saya tentang Islam dan kebesaranNya..

Saya pernah bersama seorang atheist as someone special in my life before,and I learned a lot from it,tapi lebih kepada soal kaum dan budaya..This time,lebih kepada soal agama..Senang cerita,I met someone yang lebih dekat dengan agama kita,a Christian..Jadi tak jadi belakang cerita,tapi it is really meaningful to me,no matter what the result gonna be at the end of it..For the first time,saya pergi dengan lebih mendalam tentang inter-faith relationship..

Australia,is quite open about it..Tak kisah samada dari Muslim punya side,or the Christians.. Who would have thought,a whole family of some devout Australian Christians, would accept and like me as a person,as a Muslim,as a Malay and respect me because of it..The best thing about it,it helps me grow as a Muslim..

Imagine,dalam perhubungan saya dengan seorang yang sama bangsa dan agama sebelum inipun,saya tidak pernah mendapat penghormatan sebegitu..Subhanallah!Buat pertama kali juga,tanggungjawab saya sebagai seorang Muslim terasa lebih besar daripada biasa..In a way,saya terasa seolah seperti menjadi duta kecil Islam untuk sekumpulan manusia..

I don't think I will ever get this kind of experience in Malaysia..Mungkin gua tak akan pikir langsung pasal mende-mende begini,dan terusss menjadi a normal born-Muslim yang tak tau apa-apa seperti kebanyakan kita..Menjadi Muslim yang mudah,mengikut masyarakat dan kehidupan normal harian semata-mata maybe..

Kalau dulu ketika remaja,kaedah research dan ilmu saya lebih cenderung kepada teori dan andaian semata-mata,tapi di Australia,saya mempunyai peluang to test myself in some real,out of norm life and gain more and more practical knowledge in order to find God..There might be some wrongs/rights here and there sedikit sebanyak,but as long as it will bring me closer and closer to my own religion,I wouldn't mind at all..:-)

Cuma tergelak juga dalam hati kadang-kadang,apabila terfikir beberapa perkara tentang bangsa saya sendiri-

~Ada Melayu,lebih 'Orang Putih' daripada Orang Putih..~

~Ada orang bukan Islam,yang lebih 'Islam' daripada orang Islam sendiri..~

~Yang Melayu nak jadi orang putih, yang orang putih nak jadi Melayu.. ~

Wallahualam..Semoga kita semua,mendapat hidayah-Nya selalu insyallah..

p/s: Mungkin takde orang paham pun posting ni,haha..tapi gua cuma nak melepas apa dalam kepala hotak gua jer..huhu..Mencari ustaz-ustaz yang reliable dan terbuka dalam hidup bermasyarakat juga bukan satu perkara mudah..Banyak alim ulamak yang ada,tidak pernah berpengalaman menjalani kehidupan seharian yang bercampur antara kaum dan agama pun..Cakap Arab jer pandai kut..

I know now that 'Differences',can actually bring more respect and harmony sesama manusia,contradicting the popular belief and  what I've ever imagined and experienced previously..and THIS is actually how it should be..:-)..and I'm gonna prove Islam itu mudah,relevan dan terbaik untuk umat manusia..Insyallah..

Perth Waterfront Development

Perth will always be my favourite city..:-)..This is why-Kampung Perth~..huhu..

Read the article below..This is what I mean whenever we talk about development..Just wondering if this project happen to be in Malaysia,mesti ada kutu-kutu buat facebook group-'Satu juta rakyat menentang mega projek'-agaknya..huhu..Di Kuantan,ada cadangan nak buat waterfront project jugak last two years,but ended up with some strong objections by the locals,and the state government gave in..Sigh..Bila laa negeri aku nak cantik dan maju sikit.. Semuanya sebab politik dan campur tangan raja..

Yes,I know that education,health services,transportation system,etc are very important, like how people said in their Warisan Merdeka arguments (for the backgrounds, look here -http://myotadura.blogspot.com/2010/11/warisan-merdeka.html), but we simply cannot deny the significant of commercial landmark projects..Perth pun kalau diikutkan sebenarnya agak slow dari segi pembangunan,tapi sejak Labor Party pegang both Federal and State government,everything seems so good..

Can't wait to see how Perth's gonna be in few years time..Cable cars to Kings Park?..Imagine that..Jangan Abo jer banyak naik sudah..Gua pantang dengar abo abo nih..huhu!.. Sayang,stadium jer tak jadi buat sebab tak dapat jadi host World Cup 2018/22..

City waterfront plans revealed

GARETH PARKER, The West Australian February 15, 2011, 9:15 am

The State Government has released detailed plans for the Waterfront development in front of the city on the Esplanade foreshore. Premier Colin Barnett announced Cabinet has approved $270 million funding for the project, money that will begin to flow from the May state budget.

Detailed design plans for the much anticipated redevelopment of Perth Waterfront were released this morning.

The construction timeframe is a tight 30 months, with total development costs to the Government of $440 million.

The Government, which will not develop the commercial buildings but sell lots to the private sector, expects to recoup about $170 million in land sales, leaving a net project cost to taxpayers of $270 million.

While images released today include provision for a cable car to Kings Park and an indigenous cultural centre, those projects are not included in the $270 million project cost.

A cable car project would likely be developed by a private operator, while Mr Barnett promised an indigenous cultural centre “of national significance” would be a second-term project if the Government was re-elected.

“I would like to reassure the people of Perth – there has been a lot of talking, a lot of designs and discussion over the Perth waterfront for at least the last 30 years. The project now is formally underway," he said.

“Preparation of the site will begin immediately after the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October this year which will pave the way for major earthworks for the exciting redevelopment of Perth Waterfront in early 2012,” he said.

 

“This is a significant milestone for the project and a tangible step towards its delivery.“The new waterfront will ensure Perth remains a contemporary, liveable and globally competitive city.”The State Cabinet decision follows the completion of Phase Two planning, design and site investigation works for the project, undertaken by the Department of Planning.

Planning Minister John Day was pleased to release details and design features of the project.“Our priority is to focus on delivering the fundamental infrastructure on which these amazing buildings will be constructed, including the inlet, the parks and public spaces, and the roads and services,” Mr Day said.

“The ‘Waterfront Promenade’ is the main feature of the project. It covers 1.5 hectares and links up with ‘The Island’.

“‘The Island’ is designed to be a relaxed place for children and adults and is connected to the ‘Waterfront Promenade’ by a sculptural pedestrian and cycle bridge.

“Station Park is the gateway to the new waterfront. The park will be filled with trees and native plants and includes a water feature.

“Cafes, bars and restaurants will open out to the waterfront from surrounding buildings. People will have access to the water from The Landing on the northern edge of the inlet or the ‘The Jetty’ with short term mooring.

“The Indigenous Cultural Centre will be situated over the water at the southern end of William Street and is planned to be a nationally significant centre for indigenous culture, art and learning. The timing and budget for this will be set as the major construction of the waterfront nears completion.

“Once completed, Perth Waterfront will be an exciting new city destination with direct and uninterrupted connection to the Swan River.”The waterfront project will reflect more closely the Swan River’s original shoreline.

G'day mate!!!

You know what,

I always think that if Malaysia wants to find a good country to be an example for us to move forward, it is definitely- AUSTRALIA..No doubt...and I have my own reasons..

Meanwhile,without any disrespect,let us compare ourselves to some other countries..

• Singapore: 

I don't know why we always want to compare ourselves to this tiny island..Yes,they are developed and well governed,but I don't think it is so hard to manage this country since it is so small,and has been prosperous since the era of Temasik and British..All they needed was continuity and just build on that..It's just a well expanded city..Maybe we can compare it to some of our big cities or maybe states,but not Malaysia as a whole..I would love to see KL,Malacca and Penang to be a good city like Singapore..They share some similarities and rich of history and culture..

• Japan,China,South Korea: 

All these countries can be included among the world's most ethnically homogeneous nations..They have no multiracial or multicultural elements in their daily life..We have nothing in common,but of course there are certain things to be learned from them..Especially their work ethics,technologies and human resource management..

• Western Countries: 

We can learned a lot from their histories and civilizations..Their glories and failures.. But to compare ourselves to them,well there's too many differences.. They have been there for a long time and have been built since the old days,while we are still a young country who are just about to go through our 'adulthood phase'..

• Other Muslim Kingdoms: Errrrrr...you know what I'm thinking..(and not even developed)

• Any other countries in mind perhaps??

  MALAYSIA & AUSTRALIA


Compared to other developed countries,we have so many things in common..

• Historically-colonized by the British in the early history of establishment-Australia became a Federation in 1901,and we followed in 1948, and everything started from there after.. Considering that,both can be considered as a young nations..

• Politically,it is almost the same as well..We remain a constitutional monarchy and not Republic.. Our system of governance is very similar

• Population with multi-ethnicity backgrounds

• Multi-cultures and various languages spoken (with English (Australia),and Malay (Malaysia) as de facto language)

• Religiously diverse country

• Politically and socially stable

• Country with no natural disaster

• 'Gold-mine' for immigrants

• Medium sized population (20-30 million residents)

Based on all these similarities and the fact that Australia is ranked among the top World's Best Countries 2010,I don't have to say much to prove my points..They are way better than any other developed countries at the moment..You can read Newsweek's ranking and my analysis here-Otad's-Not too bad on that matter..

Nope,we don't have to bow down to anyone or force ourselves to replicate everything blindly..Cause we do have some differences as well,and we shall do things in our own way..I'm just giving credit where credit is due..Sometimes,we do need directions in order to move forward.. For example,we seems struggling with our socio-development,racial political relations at the moment,and Australia is not a bad place for us to learn from..

Another example,if you are amazed with Putrajaya (as how I am),you should probably know that the idea came from Australian very own capital city,Canberra..And the best thing is,Putrajaya is improvised 10 times better than Canberra itself..See what I mean?

Australia is built from scratch,a deserted land which at once considered as terra nullius,and somehow has emerged to be a wonderful country..If Australia can make it,why can't we?..

An Islamic Australia?

I have been wanting to write about this since long ago..Even after my first few years living in Australia..It's about my observation on the Australian way of life and the comparison between theirs,and our own Islamic way..

Just for background- Australia is considered as a secular country..Even though there are still some arguments on that matters..Because some of their laws (abortion law,homosexual rights etc..) are still very much influenced by a strong religious context..Malaysia on the other hand, is neither secular nor Islamic country per se.. But we try to build it on a strong Islamic basis which is the official religion of the country as stated in the Constitution.. Anyway,I am not going to drag this into any further arguments or discussions.. In the context of this article,I'm considering Malaysia as a country that is going to be developed as an example of a Muslim nation..

Cleanliness

"Kebersihan adalah sebahagian daripada iman"- Australia might not be the cleanest of all,but still they are one of the best for me..Pergilah ke mana-mana,not just in the city, kebanyakan tempat yang digunakan oleh public,sangat bersih..Public parks,the beaches,any tourist spots, toilets,restaurants etc..Australians are very sensitive towards their environment..Yes,of course there are few polluted places,especially the rivers,but it is not too obvious in the public's eye..Ok,they might have some high-tech equipments and or man power to do all the clean ups in the cities,but it's not an excuse..Kita pun ada kat Malaysia,tak bersih jugak.. Here,even if there is no prohibitive fines untuk jaga kebersihan pun,saya rasa masyarakatnya tetap akan jaga kebersihan.. Maksudnya, kebersihan ini bukan lahir kesan daripada undang-undang atau authorities semata-mata (i.e- Singapore), tetapi ia lahir daripada kesedaran masyarakatnya sendiri..So I think,it is very Islamic in a way..

Honesty

Honesty is one of the most important elements in our Islamic teaching..The first important issue related to this is corruption..Australia ni bukannya takde corruption langsung,but I reckon the level is very low..Susah nak tengok depan mata..Polis ke,immigration ke,local councils ke etc..They are very honest with their duties.. Yup,it might be because they are in a high-income society,but it doesn't matter..Islam has taught us to be honest in what ever condition..Okay,that is a brief impression about corruption..Let us go into smaller issues.. Let say you left something behind (handphones,wallet etc..) somewhere..Kalau di Malaysia, orang kata jangan harap laa nak dapat balik..Sekejap jer tinggal,memang lesap..Di sini, (I've experienced it myself), boleh kata the chances to get back your belongings is still very high..Kalau hilang pun,most probably kena ambik oleh Asians..huhu..It's very secure here..

Masyarakat sini,mostly,dididik tidak ambil sesuatu yang bukan kepunyaan mereka..Ok,lagi satu example, in transportation..In some places (in my experience -Perth & Melbourne), sebenarnya kalau naik train,or tram, takyah bayar pun takpe,jangan kantoi sudah..Tapi masyarakatnya tetap bayar and abide the system..Jujur sejujurnya..I don't think this kind of system can be implemented in Malaysia yet..All these are only few examples of honesty,ada banyak lagi..So,in this case,I think it is very relevant to our Islamic way..Right?

Attitude

In our daily life here,it is very common for people to greet each other,even to strangers.. 'Good day','Have a good one','How are you',etc..and my favourite, 'Thank you'..Kadang-kadang siap berlawan cakap thank you..huhu..And it came naturally,with smiles on their faces,bukan pretend..Bukan yang macam kedai 7-Eleven kat Malaysia tu..Kita di Malaysia kadang-kadang nak bagi salam or even senyum pun susah..Lagi satu, driving attitude..I am totally amazed with it..I don't think I have to describe it here..They follow rules most of the time,in every aspects..They have somekind of Australian Standards in their life..All these positive attitude sudah sememangnya digalakkan dalam agama kita..Tak begitu?

Status

I believe here,everyone is treated equally..Kaya ke,miskin ke..The status culture is not that sickening.. Australian won't treat you like a servant,or a low class citizen,just because you are nobody or something.. They treat you nicely with respect..I give you one example..I used to work in a restaurant as a part-time job..There were times when some VIPs from Malaysia came to eat,they treat you like their maid at home..or macha kat kedai mamak..No respect at all..Sibuk dengan status Dato',Tan Sri,Tengku semua tu.. I've never experienced that with Australian customers..Susah nak jumpa orang-orang putih kaya yang sombong dan berlagak..

Contoh lain,di kedai-kedai..You can easily browse around in any shop as you like and no one will judge you..Masuklaa kedai branded ke apa,they'll treat you with respect..Cuba try masuk kedai LV ke,Polo ke kat Malaysia tengok!Confirm pandang atas bawah..The people here don't really care about your status in the society..They don't care what car you drive,what you wear,who is your family or what job you do for living..Islam taught us that every human are the same..Yang membezakan kita adalah taqwa..Bukankah masa berihram di Mekah mengajar kita semua manusia adalah sama di sisi-Nya?

Welfare

Lastly,I would like to touch on this issue..Pada zaman khalifah Harun al-Rashid,dikatakan bahawa pada zaman itu,kerajaan Islam yang diperintahnya berada di dalam keadaan yang sangat makmur,sehingga tiada orang pun yang layak menerima zakat..Realitinya di Australia,agak susah sebenarnya kalau kita mahu melihat orang-orang miskin di sini, melainkan kita betul-betul cari..Tapi susah jugak laa,because the government really take care of the welfare of those people..Students,golongan penganggur,and especially the indigenous people..Money might be the biggest issue here,sebab diorg memang banyak duit..Negara besar,banyak resources,population kecil..Kita belum sampai tahap itu lagi.. Insyallah mudah-mudahan satu hari nanti.. Sekarang tak boleh lagi,nanti manja sangat orang-orang kita,semua malas bekerja,harap duit dari government..

Secara kesimpulan,mungkin ciri-ciri ini bagi mereka tak kena-mengena dengan agama,tapi ini adalah ciri-ciri penting yang perlu ada pada sesebuah masyarakat yang maju..It's not my intention untuk puji mereka berlebihan,because they are not perfect.. They have some weaknesses too.. However,in order for Malaysia to rebuild a model of an Islamic Civilisation,kita perlu ada ciri-ciri ini..Yang baik kita ikut,yang buruk kita tolak tepi..Bukan Australia sahaja..Banyak negara lain lagi..Jepun,yang majoriti rakyatnya tidak beragama,juga boleh dicontohi sikap dan budayanya.. There are only 10,000 Muslims in Japan..While Aussies are more laid back,Japanese are more hardworking.. But both produce high quality in their work..China is not a bad country either in terms of their work culture..

Kita perlu menjadi negara Islam contoh..Maju,bertamadun,with multi-cultural society..The truth is,tidak ada mana-mana negara Islam yang mempunyai ciri-ciri seperti di atas..Arab Saudi,Bahrain, Indonesia etc, kebersihannya tidak memuaskan hati kalau kita pergi..Masih fikir status..Attitude masih lagi kasar..Egypt, Sudan,Pakistan masih lagi rasuah..Semua nak kena bagi tips baru buat kerja..Walaupun 70-99% penduduk beragama Islam..Ada negara,duit banyak,pemimpin dan keluarga mereka hidup dengan kereta bersadur emas,enjoy sini sana,hidup mereka mewah sementara rakyat masih ada yang daif..

I'm not here to criticize..Malaysia is not that bad,but there are a lot of things that can still be improved for sure..I just think we should really be an example of a developed Muslim nation in every aspects by 2020:-)..God willing,we will be able to create law abiding citizens with high morale value,parallel with other developments.. Insyallah..

Last week, Lim Guan Eng ada datang Adelaide..And currently,Tun Mahathir is in Melbourne..Dua-dua tak sempat jumpa..Aduhhhh..Assignment banyak sangatttt... Dangggg...The Chief Minister of Penang was here to visit Adelaide,which is considered as the twin sister for Penang..In case you never know,while Penang was founded by Francis Light as a British colony back then,Adelaide was founded by guess who,-his son,Colonel William Light..Interesting huh?..So kira nak merapatkan silaturrahim laaa Guan Eng niii..huhu..As long as it is for good interests,I totally support it..Tak kisah laa pembangkang ke,kerajaan ke..Here's the news about his visit..

Idols

Meanwhile,Tun was supposed to give a talk in Melbourne,tapi tak jadi sebab kene lungs infection,so had to be warded for few days in the hospital.. Ingat nak pegi melawat,but he was discharged early afternoon tadi.. He's my mannnn...Syukur alhamdulillah..:-)

Duduk di Australia ni,sebenarnya lagi senang jumpa leaders kalau diikutkan..And they are more lenient and open while abroad..Takde nak ikut pangkat-pangkat sangat..No protocol..which is good..Ikut style Aussie laa..Kalau kat Malaysia belum tentu.. Jadi politician ni patutnya jadi pekerja kepada rakyat,bukan sebaliknya..

I've met with quite a lot of leaders and public figures while here in Aussie..which I think I wouldn't even care to meet back in Malaysia,because of the status culture or protocol..Kita pulak bukan jenis mintak projek,or apa..But anyway I would love the opportunity to have a chat with Tun again,or lepak minum-minum or makan with some of the ministers again,our sportsmen,our musicians,etc just to exchange ideas and stuffs about the country,or just personal.The latest was with Sports Minister,Shabery Chik last July..Walaupun kadang-kadang diorg ni,cakap jer lebih..huhu..

So itulah ceritanya..Selain daripada sebab Guan Eng ada kat sini last week and Tun in Melbourne,sebenarnya tulis ni sebab ada orang ajak pegi Sydney weekend ni...Nak jumpa TPM..Politik lagiiiii,lamaaa dah tak politik...and golf..hehe..

Kampung Perth

Perth...Apa laa yang ko best sangat??huhu.. Sometimes,I don't even understand it myself.. Is it the life,the memories,the people,the fresh air,or the place itself?

I've been around a lot of places in my life,but nothing compares to it.. The only place that can beat the feelings is Mekah I guess..Kuantan came close neck to neck,Boston is not too bad either,Madrid seems nice,London pun ok,Hawaii is heaven..

But nothing comes close..

I'm not saying other places are not good or unsuitable..I don't know,you just have to experience it yourself.. It can't be explained..Maybe it's just me..

Kat Perth,duduk diam kat rumah tak buat apa pun best..huhu!

Okeh,,time to studyyyyyyyyyyyyy...haha!

If you don't watch any Australian national television channels, read any newspapers or do simple things like checking the mailbox outside of your house, I guess no one will realize that we are having an Election here in Australia..:-).. Well, the results will be known ultimately tomorrow..and things are going pretty close this time..Gillard vs Abbott~

last few months

I still remember waking up in the morning a couple of weeks ago when Julia Gillard, out of nowhere,suddenly became the Prime Minister of Australia, replacing Mr. Rudd.. Hmm, I am not really into the idea of having a woman as the PM though, no offence to anyone..:-) Well,but I believe that a woman could be a wonderful advisor to a leader,meaning,I am okay if they are to be the Deputy PM,or minister at least..But all these thoughts of mine only valid in terms of politics..so don't judge me as a sexist yet yeah..:-)..

Dr.Jemilah

Women,for me,can be a good leader in many other things..I adore Princess Diana,Mother Theresa,Tun Siti Hasmah,Dr.Jemilah Mahmood (MERCY), Dr.Mazlan Othman etc..They are the trend-setter,way better than what politicians can do..They inspire people..Still remember how I met Tun Siti just before my exam paper last few years in Perth,near Curtin,chatted personally with her at one corner for quite a while,and zooooommmm,to the exam hall..And guess what??..HD for that paper..haha.. Seeee!

Anyway,who ever you are,either man or woman,it doesn't matter.. Who knows you might also be the one who inspire a lot of people one day..And I believe you will..:-)..
Err..actually this is quite out of topic,considering the introduction above..But hey, what I am trying to say is,either it's a random act of kindness,or a major things that can change the world, do good things..
